Getting to Palanga in the 19th century was quite some trouble to the holidaymakers. Having arrived to Liepaja or Klaipėda they had to continue to Palanga by horse-drawn carriages. This is then that the Tiškevičius family got the idea to erect a berth.
The construction of the berth took place in 1884–1888. Passenger and cargo ship „Phoenix’’ transported the holidaymakers, goods and food from Liepaja. Yet, the berth was sanded by storms and some years later it was no longer suitable for navigation.
Since 1892 the bridge has become a favourite promenade place. Time, sea waves and wind ravaged this structure. In 1997 a new bridge of 470 metres was built.
