In XIV c. on the top of Birute hill was arranged the place for astronomical observations. Replica of this paleoastronomic observatory was constructed north from Sventoji settlement, not far from Health center "Energetikas", and called "Zemaiciu alka" (Samogitian sanctuary).
This was made by Palanga's branch of Samogitians culture organization. In June of 1998 here were putted up wooden columns made by folk art makers. Each column is equivalent for names of mythological gods and goddess of the Balts. Than sun goes down to the sea by help of columns here is possibility to fix calendar holidays, which came from paganism time: Dew holiday, Stork's Day, Shrovetide, Christmas etc.
